I’ve been thinking a lot lately about the direction our country is going and compared to what our founding fathers envisioned. As a history student in college I loved early American history and political history. Every decision I make in life is based on my faith and God, like men who started this great nation. Everyone thought that our rights come from God and not man or government. Liberals may argue that America was not founded on Christian values, but in fact Samuel Adams, the father of the American Revolution believes that in order to have a peaceful nation must be a Christian nation.
“I conceive that we can not express ourselves better than by humbly begging the supreme ruler of the world… That the confusions that are and have been among nations can be revoked by the promotion and the speed with which the period of holy and happy when the kingdoms of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, may be everywhere established, and people willingly bow to the scepter of him who is the Prince Peace, “ Samuel Adams .
Our founders established our Republic as a Christian nation and assumed that this will continue for many years to come. In 1854, Congress, the House Judiciary Committee, said the United States is indeed a Christian nation.
“If the people during the revolution, had a suspicion of any attempt to war against Christianity, that the revolution would have been strangled in his crib .. . at this age, there can be no substitute for Christianity … that was the religion of the founders of the republic and is expected to remain the religion of their descendants. ” (Source :. Reports of committees of the House of Representatives made during the first session of the XXXIII Congress [Washington: A. O. P. Nicholson, 1854], pp. 6-9)
Today, with open borders, the acceptance of lifestyles that go against the teachings of the Bible and the ten commandments, violence in our cities, the glorification of sex, lies and corruption of our government, racial hatred, divorce statistics and fewer families attend church on Sundays have veered away from God.
What would Samuel Adams if he saw what his nation has become? It would fall into disgrace and shame us. The only way we can change things and become the great Christian Republic that once were is to love one another as Jesus and return to a culture centered on God.
We as a people have to make the right decisions. Do you see that violent movie on television or turn it off? If your marriage is in trouble, seeking advice and help or take the easy way and break up with him? Do you pray with your children and teach them right from wrong or let them learn from their peers at school? Do you teach your children about modesty and immorality or let them learn from television, Hollywood and magazine covers? If you sleep in on Sunday or early wake his family to go to that church which has not been in since Easter? When you visit the voting booth How you vote for liars and cheaters or men and women who are fair, honest and wants to do the right thing for our country?
I think the devil is in control of our culture. We see the results of your work every day in the news. In order to fight the evil we have to turn to the Lord and the Virgin for help and we base our decisions every day on Christian values our Republic was founded on.
“Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord, the people He has chosen as his own inheritance.” Psalm 33:12
