If you’ve been following my story, you know I love to travel. One reason is that I love to explore.
I love to eat!
One of the best things about traveling the world is to try the local cuisine. When I lived with the Guarani tribe in Peru, I drank beer made from cassava root that native women spit on the floor and let it ferment. I ate raw worms and larvae.
Eaten the “food of the gods” in the Amazon. An amazing fruit called cupuaçu that tastes heavenly chocolate mixture and vanilla.
I have tried many unusual foods it is difficult to surprise. But that’s exactly what happened in Bali when I was served “blue rice” covered with coconut for dessert.
was so bright and vivid that I thought I had to be food coloring. And so it was.
Something like that.
The wine bright blue pea plant butterfly. Flowers Butterfly pea are the most spectacular of all the flowers in Bali. And it is not small thing!
But as I learned from my friends and Westi Lelir, butterfly plant pea is loved in Bali for much more than its beauty.
The Balinese call “Telang Bunga.” It comes from the words of Indonesia which means having a clear vision. Traditional herbalists in Bali use the roots to cure eye diseases and flowers to cure eye infections such as conjunctivitis, or “pink eye.”
But that’s just the beginning. Telang Bunga is one of the pillars medicinal Balinese culture. I was amazed when Lelir told me about the different ways in Balinese use. So I decided to do some research of my own.
And what I found only added to my amazement. I included the Butterfly pea in my book healing herbs Bali , but the truth is I could have written a whole book in a factory!
