There is an explosion of obesity in China and researchers are holding responsible Western diet. Foods rich in carbohydrates and sugar are the main culprits of this explosion of obesity. A survey age of 29, conducted in Shandong, reveals that 17% of children aged 19 or less and 9% of girls (which increased from 1% in 1985) were obese in 2014.

Yingxiu Zhang, the author of the research published in the European Journal of Preventive Cardiology said the Chinese are turning to unhealthy diets that have a lot of calories and fat and have low amounts of fiber. He also added that eating a lot of carbonated beverages with less or no amount of exercise are powerful reasons for obesity.

Shandong University Institute of Preventive Medicine conducted an investigation which studied the body mass index of 28,000 students from 1985 to 2014. In conclusion, they found that obesity in children has worsened since 0.03% to 17.20% and 0.12% girls to 9,11% in these 29 years. The study warns that the Chinese are at increased risk of cardiovascular disease in the coming years.

Joep Park is of the view that the popularity of Western food is causing a lot of damage in Chinese children and that they should return to their traditional nutritious diet in order to lead a healthy life. Parents can play an important role in controlling and eradicating this problem by introducing healthy foods into your daily diet.
