There is an explosion of obesity in China and researchers are holding responsible Western diet. Foods rich in carbohydrates and sugar are the main culprits of this explosion of obesity. A survey age of 29, conducted in Shandong, reveals that 17% of children aged 19 or less and 9% of girls (which increased from 1% in 1985) were obese in 2014.
Joep Perk, a spokesman for the European Society of Cardiology that the research was conducted, said it was the worst outbreak of obesity in adolescents has ever seen.
Yingxiu Zhang, the author of the research published in the European Journal of Preventive Cardiology said the Chinese are turning to unhealthy diets that have a lot of calories and fat and have low amounts of fiber. He also added that eating a lot of carbonated beverages with less or no amount of exercise are powerful reasons for obesity.
Shandong University Institute of Preventive Medicine conducted an investigation which studied the body mass index of 28,000 students from 1985 to 2014. In conclusion, they found that obesity in children has worsened since 0.03% to 17.20% and 0.12% girls to 9,11% in these 29 years. The study warns that the Chinese are at increased risk of cardiovascular disease in the coming years.
