Jesus Is on your TV? Do yourself a favor. Change the channel. I was reading the Beatitudes few weeks ago and found well … .bored. I prayed God, you’re not boring, what am I missing?
I realized I was reading this passage of Scripture with T.V. Jesus in my head. Do you know T.V. Jesus? You know who I’m talking about, right? Talk slowly in a monotone voice and mysteriously says: “Follow me.” In my head, T.V. Jesus has the perfect flowing hair and lights up while walking on the water. TV. Jesus rises on a boat and speaks calmly, “peace” and the storm obeys. TV Jesus walks around with doves flying above and outstretched arms as you walk along the streets and in the cities.
The problem with TV of Jesus is that I have nothing in common with that kind. You can not relate to T.V. At Jesus. All. If this is your only perception of Jesus, you can prevent really know. That’s why I usually read Paul’s letters or books of the Old Testament. I identify with those people. They were human … all human way. Then I remembered a very important fact.
Jesus was human too! He was fully human
Phil. 2: 6-7 says: “Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant.”
helps me to think of Jesus before beginning his ministry. He had a mother and earthly father. He had brothers and friends. He tired and in need of food, water and rest! He was fully human and fully holy! It is a challenge for me to get used to human Jesus!
Then I prayed to God to show me what I was missing, the story of Jesus in the temple came to mind. Matthew 21: 12 speaks of Jesus turning over tables because he was so mad were not respecting the temple
I empathize with that Jesus! This is passionate about Jesus! This Jesus is more relatable emotions. This guy threw a Holy fit! His righteous anger caused a scene and cleaned the house!
This embodiment showed me that do not know Jesus as I think I did. If you really knew Jesus, who had never get bored with Scripture. I do not think God wants to put Jesus in either boxes. He does not want to have a T.V. Jesus and a passionate Jesus. His desire is that we simply know your son, Jesus of the Bible!
So I’m in a new attempt to relearn Jesus. This will take the Holy Spirit, prayer and deceleration when I read the Gospels. I’m also reading Beautiful outlaw by John Eldredge. It is very useful in allowing you to think that Jesus actually had a personality.
Humans have personalities. Some are more colorful than others. The thought of Jesus hanging out and joking with his friends almost seems a little sin. Should not. God made his people in his image and a lot of Christians have fun and joke with his friends.
We have to turn the TV off Jesus and relearn the real Jesus is.
must move to grow in Christ! Jesus shows us who God! The Jesus of the Bible never gets boring because God never gets boring.
The good news is that Jesus wants us to know Him. He wants us to know Him so badly that he died so we can have a relationship with Him! My relearning who Jesus becomes my favorite part of my Bible study. He is so faithful to appear when the Bible study with the aim of learning that it is based on Scripture, not television. Jesus is worth knowing. Do what you can get to know him! That’s when good things start to happen. Jesus was the best person who ever walked the earth, we will strive to get to know the true God.
Dear Heavenly Father,
I pray that every eye that reads this gets to know your savings grace through Jesus. I pray that help us know who you are, and to relearn Jesus. Help to show who you are as we read his word. They help us learn to love with all our heart, soul, mind and strength. Father, forgive us for putting Jesus in boxes and open our eyes and ears to hear the truth of who he is when we look in the Bible. Help us to see that Jesus really is everything.
In the name of Jesus,
