The Pokémon Go app for Apple and Android devices just launched on July 6, and the social media are the outstanding innovations of this new phenomenon.
What exactly Pokémon go and why so many people are downloading and playing this game? According to Wikipedia, “ Pokémon Go (stylized as Pokémon GO) is a free-to-play mobile augmented reality game developed by Niantic for iOS and Android devices. It was released in beta in July 2016. The game lets players capture, battle, train, and virtual trade Pokémon seen in all the real world. Although the game is free-to-play, compatible with in-app purchases. An optional portable device works with the game, called the Pokémon Go Plus, it will be released in the future as a separate purchase. the device uses a Bluetooth connection to notify users when a Pokémon is nearby, with an LED display and vibration light. “
When a player download the game the first thing they do is create an avatar and customize hair, skin, eye color and clothing. Once created avatar will be displayed at the current location of the player with a map of the player’s environment. The application uses the GPS to find the location of the player and the location of what they call, Pokéstops or Pokégyms. These stops are usually in typical places where people gather in groups such as parks, churches, monuments and tourist attractions. As in the television series, when a player enters a Pokémon Go Pokégym he or she can challenge another player, as long as that player is a leader.
Pokémon Go encourages exercise
The best feature of this game is that it encourages young people to get out and exercise. In order to capture Pokémon players are required to walk around in the real world to move your avatar. The game has two different display modes, augmented reality, or use a pre-rendered background. The AR mode uses the camera and a gyroscope on the mobile player to display an image of a Pokémon like in the real world. Players can also take pictures with a camera in the game Pokémon found. If you play this with your children you can take a photo of your child with a Pokémon.
Players have to crawl your finger on the screen to throw the Pokeball in order to capture a Pokémon. After capture Pokémon, the player receives two types of coins in the game: candies and stardust. Candies awarded by a successful capture depends on what a Pokémon belongs evolutionary chain. A player can use stardust and candy to raise “combat power” of a Pokémon or CP. However, only candies are needed to evolve into a Pokémon. Players can also lead to more Pokémon and win the candy by transferring Pokémon for Pokémon Professor.
Go After Pokémon was launched topped Top Grossing App Store US and top free apps within the first 24 hours. Why are so many people downloaded this game? Millennials are attracted to it because it is the model of popular animated series that aired on Cartoon Network as children and the card game also played as children. Go Pokémon also gives young people something to do while in sectors and encouraged to be more aware of their surroundings.
Pokémon Go is a great idea and I congratulate the creators, Satoru Iwata of Nintendo and Tsunekazu Ishihara of The Pokémon Company. However, they have no safety problems regarding the state of the game, and the New York Post reported that playing Pokémon Go is becoming dangerous . Like all the new games there is always solvable problems encountered during the first week of its release. I’m sure developers will find solutions to make the game safer. Go Pokémon is here to stay or is it just a fleeting fad? Children will still catch Pokémon in winter, when temperatures are below zero? Only time will tell.
