When you are a parent, suddenly, everything becomes a question.
What should I feed my baby? When should I start? What car seat should I buy, and I install it correctly? What stroller or baby carrier need, and how do I use? What about toys – they are some more educational than others? What do I do with all this …!
can be kind of overwhelming, honestly, sometimes.
But it is human nature. We have to ask questions. We have to make sure we’re doing the best possible for our babies and children. They are everything to us.
The questions you can not ask
I know that every time I’ve had a baby (I’ve had 5) new questions were on my radar.
With my older daughter, obsessively read every book I could on pregnancy , so I would know what to expect every week. It was what I was feeling normal?
I read about every decision you have to make – routine tests and such (I accepted much of it). I looked at cloth diapers . Honestly, I trusted what they told me a lot, conventional doctors and books of the mainstream, because I had not thought to ask many questions simply … yet. I still a fair amount of reading on natural birth breastfeeding , and the things I thought it would be a little more difficult.
With my second baby I started asking even more questions . I looked for a care provider more natural form of mind, starting with midwives in hospitals. I asked a lot of questions, when I met them (literally typed and printed a list). Later I changed my house birth , but only after asking more questions tons of friends who had already undergone home births , then home birth midwives .
I realized that everyone is a little different, and has different needs, and that parenting is no exception . I realized that no one was looking out for my exact interest, except for me. There were people on the road who provided me with information, who have supported me, who advocated for me. But only through partnership and communication with them, you could make sure you get the best care.
That is reasonable, you know? Professionals are busy, and they need you to be informed and talk if you have a need. They are not mind readers.
The more I learned, the more I asked
asked me more and more questions …. I began to question what I thought I knew about of car seats , and they traded up best. I bought best baby carriers and learned how to use them. I learned more about changing cloth diapers and found those who worked for me (which actually sewed my own). I looked at what I was feeding my children, and started offering healthier options.
A lot of moms can relate. They’d do anything to have the healthiest baby possible. True?
Even later in life, the questions do not stop. Where should my child go to school … and when? If to go to school at all? Which method is right? What about discipline? moral teachings? It never ends.
That’s a little weird that there is a topic that many people simply do not ask questions . If they get upset if someone even hints that that may start asking questions. It is this profound reaction, gut fear. We not question. We can not or simply matters could lead to harm our babies, or even our entire society!
That sounds ridiculous. Well, it’s like it is. But happens .
Is this you ask?
is vaccines .
Some of you said immediately: “No, no, no can not question those One question ” anti-vaxxers those safe and effective, saved the world, the largest advance… public health;! End of story “
But is it?
If that’s what you feel … why? Where did you learn that?
Most people have just heard again and again. The media constantly touts. Many high-profile doctors do too. was not a very smart picture painted of how big vaccines are. denies that there could be nothing at all going on anything other than perfection, and anyone who dares to whisper much as “Maybe one vaccine is not working as planned … “is the mark of an anti-vaxxer and crazy. (Now they think I’m a conspiracy theorist, even to dare to say this.)
This is the truth, however, everyone: vaccines are a medical product . They are not perfect. They are not for everyone. They can hurt some people.
readily accept that some people are severely allergic to peanuts , even though most people can eat without problem. Some people even have “sensibilities” peanut ie they do not have an anaphylactic reaction, but might get an upset stomach or a rash of them. Peanuts do not work for everyone, and that’s fine.
Vaccines are the same way.
If you really, wholeheartedly believes that only an “anti-vaxxer” would dare to say anything about this or vaccines question … why? Should not we be looking for new evidence as it comes out? If we can not evaluate vaccines one by one? We should not decide on a case by case basis (per child, and vaccine ) what we should do? We do this in any other subject.
Water is absolutely necessary for life. Without water; he will die in a matter of days. Nobody questions that you need.
However, in reality do issue of water all the time. When my baby can have some? How much? What kind of container? How much should I , as an adult, be drinking for optimal health? It is my water clean enough? You should filter the water – And if so, how
We asked water . Something that is the most basic human need.
However, we can not question vaccines. Vaccines are not a human need. They are not on par with water. Humans can and should live without them.
Now, you may still believe that vaccines are a good thing, and wants to get them. It’s okay. But at least some questions first. Why does my child need this? Now is the best time to receive it? What are the possible negative reactions? What is this vaccine
is not too much to ask. Do not feed your baby a new food without making sure that it is healthy and appropriate for their age . You can even read several books and talking to several doctors about when and what to feed your baby, to avoid allergies and he or she is growing well maintained. Why do these same questions about vaccines?
It is time to stop burying your head in the sand and act as vaccines are a magical product, perfect that simply can not question. We need to be able to have an honest discourse . We must have informed consent.
Can we at least do that? Can be okay to just ask questions?
not going to do anything else. We will not remove vaccines. We’re just going to ask questions, and make sure if vaccines like, you know your child is getting them in the safest possible manner. Let’s remove the hysteria surrounding the issue. That is all.
If you want to ask a few more questions check out Vaccine Education section . We’re not saying what to do, and we fully support their right to choose … just start asking questions.
