Thyroid disorders are difficult to diagnose, and often require a series of specific blood tests. However, fifty years ago, Dr. Broda Barnes developed a test which helps initiate the diagnostic process. It was found that the body temperature, taken immediately after awakening, is an indicator. Test Results

normal basal temperature is between 36.5 and 36.8 degrees.

If your basal temperature is below 36.5, it is likely to have thyroid function (hypothyroidism) reduced. Symptoms of hypothyroidism include depression, lack of energy, fatigue, infections, chronic headaches, reduced memory and concentration, thinning and hair loss.

If your basal temperature is higher than 36.8, it is likely that production is accelerating thyroid (hyperthyroidism), or may be the development of a low-grade infection.

For greater precision, perform this test three days. If your temperature is above or below the normal range, visit your doctor and insist on a full battery of tests.
