Hey ladies, is Anna of Fash Boulevard here with another edition of our Ladies Portable series of interviews. focus this month is easily one of the most renowned fashion bloggers in the world. From your your oh-so-Pinterest-worthy travel photos feminine style, Julia Engel has earned its place at the top of the pyramid blogger with your blog incredibly successful Gal Meets Glam . Today, it opens on common misconceptions blogger, her tips for a healthy life, and your favorite celebrity doppelganger story. Let’s dive in:
Let’s start from the beginning! What inspired you to start Gal Meets Glam?
I started while I was a junior in college as a fun, creative outlet. It quickly became much more when I started to find my voice and narrative with him.
What are some misconceptions about bloggers?
1. That we are all created equal. Every blogger has his own reasons for wanting to share and each blogger has very different levels of commitment to it.
2. get everything for free. While it is entirely possible that some bloggers to get everything for free or with an extreme discount, I think that there are significant disadvantages to do. Actually we prefer to pay for almost all of our own experiences and products. Thus, to remain faithful to the messages and content we share and recommend only things we really want.
3. That amount of followers is all that matters. Especially with Instagram numbers being so public, it can be daunting for smaller bloggers to see your follower count slowly grow. But what has always been more important for us is attractive with followers we have. I know some bloggers who have built the amazing companies despite their total follower count remains low compared with other bloggers. A friend of ours in the industry once brought a great point: “Imagine that all his followers are sitting in a room and they are all there listening does not matter if the room is the size of a country, a football stadium or a classroom. , your message is somehow their mark on these people, so focus on making your amazing experience and the room is sure to grow as word spreads. “
can you take a look at the amount of work that will keep a blog of his caliber?
Like any business, there is much work goes on behind the scenes. We are pushing out five blog posts a week, four weekly newsletters, multiple mini-messages on GMG Now creating content for our social channels, shooting campaigns for brands that involves constantly creating unique concepts, location scouting, objects and products, and editing photos. That does not even include all work address or tedious things like answering emails, stay on top of questions from readers and commitment to the travel date. Always work to do and there are many more things we want to accomplish.
If I was not blogging, what he was doing?
Realistically, I’d probably be working in marketing. That’s what I studied in school and what I was doing before I started blogging full time. In my dreams, I would be a florist.
What are three of your favorite posts from your blog?
Kenwood House comes quickly to mind as one of my messages all time favorite because it brings wonderful memories of one of my favorite days. If you were to imagine what happened a perfect day with great friends, picnicking in a London park it would look like, this is more or less the same.
Talk was my first message only focuses on personal issues in narrative form. I wanted to write messages like this for so long, but never did because I was afraid of what people might think. Finally find the courage to do it was amazing. The feedback we’ve received from readers was amazing and taught me that readers want a forum where they feel comfortable to open as well.
Isola Del Garda was a past most surreal day in Italy last April on Lake Garda. We took a boat across the lake to a beautiful restaurant on the water and then boated to a castle on the lake. Everything about this day was very special and will never forget.
I am a big fan of your Instagram! Do you have any tips or tricks to achieve an aesthetically impressive Instagram page?
Thank you! It really depends on what you want to share. My biggest suggestion would be to stick with their own style and that is really you. Modeled someone else for success you can get new followers, but in the end people will stay with influential people who share their own unique take on the world.
What is something people are surprised to learn about you?
That I’m a country girl at heart. I feel more comfortable and at home in the country. Nothing makes me happier than being outdoors, surrounded by family and friends.
What has been the best moment of your career so far?
is honestly been the whole journey, from beginning to end, not just a single moment. I think it’s important to share that there is never one thing that ultimately define his career. If you want to succeed you have to find happiness at all times, including the absolute maximum and the absolute minimum. I am, of course, grateful for the opportunities they truly amazing, you get to experience, but none of them would have been possible without the hard work and long hours behind the scenes, as well as the support of family, friends and followers more striking.
In Gal Meets Glam to share about fashion, beauty, decoration, life and travel. What is your favorite thing about blog?
I love fashion through share travel stories. I prefer to plan my clothes in front of travel based on what I expected to find on the trip. Travel opens the door to new experiences and the opportunity to acquire a valuable source of inspiration through new crops, food, plants, architecture and landscape. Write these messages is so nice, because I can relive our experiences during the creation of a story that transports our readers to our travels.
‘re all about healthy living here in LC.com. How is a typical day of eating healthy is for you?
I’m trying to find a balance between eating healthy and allowing myself to enjoy occasionally. I always start my day with breakfast, scrambled eggs with toast usually avocado and mint tea, a bowl of granola and almond milk or a smoothie full of fruits and vegetables. Lunch usually includes looking for a quick option, usually a salad with some protein. I would like to work at night, so I’ll take a small snack just before, usually around 5 or 5:30 as an apple and peanut butter, hummus and carrots or a banana. For dinner, we’ll grill fish and vegetables or make a big plate of grilled vegetables with quinoa, beans, hummus and avocado.
What is the best part of working with your husband? What is the hardest part?
The best part of working with Thomas is that we are building something together as a team. We respect each other and understand that both add value to Gal Meets Glam. It’s our baby. The hardest part is to separate work life and personal life. We really have to make a conscious effort to leave work behind and spend time together, just us. It is difficult because the two are so passionate about what we do and we want to be always growing and getting better.
You and your husband travels a lot. What has been your favorite place to visit and why?
We have been to some really amazing locations around the world, so it’s hard to pick just one because they were all so different! I can not really pick a favorite, although Hawaii will always be “our place” because we really feel more relaxed when we are there. Nothing compares to the beaches of Hawaii.
is no secret that they share an uncanny resemblance to Emma Watson. Do you have any funny story of mistaken identity?
happens all the time! Honestly at least a few times a week and that happened worldwide. There are people shouting “Emma, Emma!” On the streets, people asking for an autograph and even had the paparazzi follow me across town in New York City once. I find it absolutely hilarious! I think the funniest story was when a girl came up to me in the London Underground and asked for an autograph, thinking it was Emma. When I said I was not, he thought he was lying and trying to play it cool. He would not leave me uncomfortable for about five minutes, during which I tried to explain that my name was Julia and I was from California. English was not their first language so maybe could not tell the difference in accent. Everyone around us (except the fan Emma confused) laughed at the mix-up.
Words to live by?
