If you’re eating this, your prostate is at risk

prostate, health If you are worried about your prostate, your doctor may have already told you about benefits of broccoli , tomatoes, whole grains and vitamin E.

If you are not concerned, it should be! The Mayo Clinic says that 50 percent of men over age 60 develop an enlarged prostate. After 85, this number rises to 95 percent. So odds are you need to care.

But even if you have changed your diet to include these healthier options, you may not be aware that there are foods you should not eat for the sake of your prostate – no matter how much broccoli you are getting his plate.

Stay away from these foods, which are doing more harm than good.

Enjoying a meat well done or a double hamburger patty may sound ideal for almost everyone, but red meat could be a danger to prostate.

Researchers thought high-fat dairy products was the culprit – other tests were related to a high-fat diet with prostate cancer. But they identified calcium in the diet as the cause.

Further research revealed that men who consumed 2,000 mg of calcium a day were three times more likely to develop advanced prostate cancer compared to men who consumed 500 mg or less. Huntsman Cancer Institute at the University of Utah has also reported on the connection of calcium for prostate cancer.

talk to your doctor if you are considering taking calcium supplements. I would advise against them.

Sugar and artificial sweeteners usually appear in any list- food-to avoid its adverse health effects. They have been linked to diabetes, cardiovascular disease and obesity. They can also be harmful to your prostate.

Research at the University of California, and published in Journal of Endocrinology and Metabolism critical examined the relationship between obesity, hypertension and enlarged prostate. What they found was men with elevated glucose levels were three times more likely to develop an enlarged prostate.

Other research published in Journal of Human Nutrition and Dietetics observed that reducing sugar intake could lead to a better overall prostate health.

The American Heart Association recommends that men consume only nine teaspoons of sugar, or 150 calories per day, for a healthy diet in general . There are eight teaspoons in a can of soda, to give you an idea, thus abandoning the soda would be a good place to start.

The Cancer Treatment Centers of America recommends that men with prostate cancer should not cut sugar completely. Natural sugars come from fruits and agave still must be consumed in moderation -. that provide the body with antioxidants that fight disease

The point is, eating habits play a very important role in prostate health role. With age, they are at an increased risk of developing an enlarged prostate, according to the National Institutes of Health.

The exact causes have not yet been determined, but that makes it even more important for your prostate a priority.
