HOW SMARTPHONE LIGHT AFFECTS YOUR BRAIN & BODY (INFOGRAPHIC)

You can not know this, but the smart phone emits bright blue light that lets you read what which it is on the screen, even during the brightest spots of the time. But light does not turn off or adjust according to the time of day; it is emitted continuously, not only for our smartphones, but for our laptops, televisions and other devices as well. The problem is that this light, which mimics the sunshine, confuses your brain into thinking it is during the day, even during the dark of night. Melatonin is released by a small organ in the brain called the pineal gland of a couple of hours before bedtime. The science of why blue light emitted by mobile devices keeps people awake led to discovery of a photoreceptor called Melanopsin. Although we have long been familiar with the various rods and cones that build our vision, Melanopsin was recently discovered in the retinal ganglion cell, which are sensitive to blue light. Since then, experimental research has found that the average person using mobile devices before bedtime may have difficulty falling and / or staying asleep.

The impact of blue light is even more important for teenagers, who are more vulnerable to the effects of light than adults. This is because the natural circadian rhythm changes during adolescence, making teens feel more awake late into the night.
