The team fed one group of mice fatty foods, and other four groups received fatty foods with four different types of fish oil enriched with either low or high doses of DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) and EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) low or high dose. Whatever type of fish oil supplemented with mice in groups gained 5-10% less weight and 15 to 25% less fat compared to those who do not consume any oil.
Both DHA and EPA rich oils produced similar results, and scientists speculate that if combined that could have a more potent synergistic effect.
The study also found that cells beige formed from white fat cells when the sympathetic nervous system is activated, which means that certain cells in fat storage may change from storage cells for metabolizing cells.
Although this was an animal study that points the way toward understanding how different aspects of diet can help or hinder health.
“People have always said that food from Japan and the Mediterranean contributes to longevity, but why these kitchens are beneficial was the subject of discussion,” said Kawada. “We now have a better idea why whatever.”
