Eat more grapes to alleviate painful knee osteoarthritis

The clinical study of sixteen weeks, involved 72 men and women with knee osteoarthritis (OA) who were assigned to either consume grapes in the form of a lyophilized powder all the grapes, or placebo powder.

The results showed that both men and women who eat a grape-enriched diet had a significant decrease in the subjective perception of pain related activity and a general decrease in total knee symptoms. This beneficial effect was greater in women.

In addition, no differences related to age were observed: there was a 70% increase in the difficult activity for those under 64 years of age consuming the grape powder, while those receiving placebo had a significant decrease in this activity. Participants over 65 years if consumption of grapes or placebo, reported a decrease in moderate to difficult activities.
